Install heritage leadlight and stained glass


Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to review and use recognised installation principles and practice to install heritage leadlight and stained glass following their conservation.

This unit applies to individuals working with designed glass.

Licensing, legislative or certification requirements may apply to this unit and relevant state/territory and local government agencies should be consulted to determine any necessary certification or licensing for undertaking glass and glazing work. Access to construction sites requires certification of general induction training specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction for Construction Work (ASCC 2007).

1. Plan installation requirements

1.1 Identify and follow work health and safety, legislative and organisational requirements

1.2 Establish, confirm and clarify location of the leadlight and stained glass panel to be installed with appropriate personnel

1.3 Identify removal and reinstallation sequence and develop a work plan with approval of relevant people

2. Prepare for installation

2.1 Position and check tools and equipment prior to use to ensure they are appropriate for the installation, serviceable and in a safe condition

2.2 Conduct inspection of the opening where the panel is to be installed

2.3 Inspect leadlight and stained glass panel to ensure its integrity prior to installation

2.4 Position plans and other documents to allow for confirmation of the panel structure and placement

2.5 Take photographs before installation of the panel for inclusion in reference report

3. Install the panel

3.1 Install panel in position in accordance with design

3.2 Install and check panel structural supports for integrity

3.3 Safely remove supporting frames from the panel

3.4 Identify and accurately document structural integrity

3.5 Take photographs of process during and after installation for later reference

4. Finalise and report on the installation

4.1 Inspect integrity of installed panel after installation

4.2 Remove, clean and store tools and equipment in accordance with workplace procedures

4.3 Clean removal area and dispose of rubbish

4.4 Prepare required installation report and provide to relevant people in accordance with job requirements
